High Quality

Higher quality preserves fine photographic details at the expense of larger file sizes.

#FFFFFF (Default: Solid White)

Because JPEG files lack an alpha channel, any transparent pixels are blended over this color.

Workflow Guide

How to Operate HEIC to JPG Converter

Convert proprietary Apple High-Efficiency Image Container (HEIC) and HEIF photos into universally compatible 8-bit JPEG images entirely in your browser using libheif WebAssembly and dedicated Web Workers.

  1. 1 Drop one or multiple .heic or .heif photos from your iPhone, iPad, or Mac into the upload zone.
  2. 2 Configure the desired JPEG output quality (40% to 100%, default 90%) using quick presets (Small 60%, Balanced 75%, High 90%, Max 100%).
  3. 3 Optionally customize the background fill color used to composite any transparent areas.
  4. 4 Click "Convert to JPG" to process the queue in parallel via dedicated Web Workers.
  5. 5 Inspect conversion savings, preview converted JPGs, and download individual files or a consolidated ZIP archive.

Example Input & Output

Sample Input:
IMG_4021.HEIC (2.4 MB, Apple iPhone 15 Pro)
Expected Output:
IMG_4021.jpg (1.8 MB, 90% Quality JPEG)

Supported Inputs

  • Apple iOS / iPadOS / macOS HEIC photo containers (.heic)
  • High-Efficiency Image Format files (.heif)
  • Canon / Sony / Samsung HEIF stills (.heif, .heic)
  • Batch uploads up to 25 files per session (max 50 MB per file, 150 MB total)

Browser Technical Limits

  • Live Photo companion video clips (.mov) are not bundled inside static HEIC stills.
  • Apple ProRAW multi-frame linear gain maps and 10-bit HDR dynamic range are tone-mapped to standard 8-bit sRGB JPEG.
  • Only genuine ISOBMFF containers with compatible brands (heic, heix, hevc, hevx, mif1, msf1) are accepted; fake or renamed files are rejected.
Q&A

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about HEIC to JPG Converter, formats, and privacy guarantees.

How does UtilityHub convert HEIC photos without sending them to a server?

UtilityHub runs the official libheif codec compiled to WebAssembly (via heic-to v1.6.7) directly inside your web browser. A dedicated Web Worker decodes the HEIC container bitstream and draws the decoded uncompressed raster frame onto an OffscreenCanvas, which then encodes the JPEG binary. Your personal photos never touch external servers or cloud storage.

Why do my converted JPEG files sometimes have a larger file size than the original HEIC?

HEIC utilizes the advanced High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC/H.265) compression algorithm, which is up to 50% more efficient than legacy JPEG. When re-encoding at high quality (e.g. 90% or 100%), JPEG requires more bytes to represent the same high-frequency visual details. UtilityHub transparently reports both positive compression savings and negative size differences.

What happens to transparency when converting HEIC to JPG?

The standard JPEG file format does not support an alpha (transparency) channel. If an input HEIC image contains transparent or cutout regions, UtilityHub composites them over a solid background fill color (solid white #FFFFFF by default, or any custom color you pick in the settings).

Why does UtilityHub reject files with the .heic extension if they are actually JPEG or PNG?

UtilityHub performs strict binary ISOBMFF container inspection on the file header. It verifies the presence of the "ftyp" box and validates compatible brands (heic, heix, hevc, hevx, mif1, msf1). Files that are merely renamed (such as a JPEG or PNG renamed to .heic) or corrupted are rejected immediately to prevent decoder panics.

Can I convert multiple HEIC photos at once and download them as a ZIP?

Yes! You can queue up to 25 HEIC photos per session. The engine processes them efficiently and lets you download all resulting JPGs bundled into a single ZIP archive client-side using pure JavaScript, or save individual photos.

Is heic-to open-source and what license does it use?

UtilityHub uses heic-to v1.6.7, which packages libheif v1.23.7 compiled with Emscripten WebAssembly under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 (LGPL-3.0). In full compliance with LGPL-3.0 Section 4, the decoder is maintained as an isolated, dynamically linked bundle without proprietary modifications. Source code is available at https://github.com/hoppergee/heic-to and upstream libheif at https://github.com/strukturag/libheif. Users may freely replace or relink the decoder bundle at public/assets/js/shared/heic-to.bundle.js.
